Coffee for a Cause: Haiti Blue Pine

Haiti holds a special place in my heart, and I am eager to do missionary work there. Haiti has a convoluted history that is ripe with oppression and imperialism. However, the people are warm; the climate is amazing, and the country is beautiful. The primary reason I started the online coffee shop is to help charitable foundations through Coffee for a Cause. There are several options available, but I wanted to start with the Haitian coffee. Haitian Blue Pine is one of the finest coffees I have tried, and the proceeds ensure that the farmers in the central plateau where the coffee originates earns 300% more than the Haitian minimum wage.

Haitian coffee has a very refined, full profile that boasts confidence in a cup. It is rich, low in acidity, and medium-bodied. The all-around delicious coffees coming from the region have mellow overtones that come from their smooth texture and sweet taste. Haitian Blue Pine is grown in the shady pine tree region, which provides ideal shade, a rarity in Haiti. This shady growth adds to the mellow, rich profile of the beans.

I received my first bag the other day, and the first impression I got was the quality of the bag and the coffee itself. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful, glossy black bag and simple label. Before I opened the bag, I could smell the delicious aroma through the air valve on the side of the bag. This one-way air valve maintains the freshness of the coffee as well. When I opened the bag, the scent filled the kitchen. The beans were medium ground, indicative of a medium roast, and I made the brew in a standard percolator. The finished product was too good to add anything to it, and so I enjoyed the Haitian coffee black. It was just as good as it smelled. Haiti Blue Pine is a medium body roast with a buttery mouthfeel and notes of roasted almonds. The coffee had no acid, no aftertaste, and was incredibly smooth.
