As I continue my traveling wanderings into a new year, I am reminded of the hard lessons learned from last year. I am applying them to the new opportunities the Lord has blessed me with. The World Atlas travelogues are going well, and I did a piece on one of my bucket list destinations, Oxford, Mississippi.
New Beginnings
In this year of new beginnings for The Jazz Pantry (JP), I am not concerned with SEO scores and reaching a plastic audience that does not resonate with JP’s core values. This site was created in honor of a dear friend and culinarian to expand people’s visions and palettes. One can only do that by traveling unless they live in a cosmopolitan universe like NYC. As we kick off the website for version 2.0, I will use it as a journal of sorts.
I am not pretentious—far from it. I am in awe of the world and love sharing my discoveries with like-minded people and converting others along the way. My marketing writing day job, my travelogues for World Atlas, and some freelance gigs along the way have opened my generative well. I feel a need to create literary landscapes that people escape to, as any worthwhile writer does.
Oxford, Mississippi
In that vein, I am planning a trip to Oxford, MS, this year. I want, and the town deserves, a first-person perspective on its many talents. The historic buildings, academic air, and fun nightlife paint the picture well enough. My job, my duty, is to transcribe this eclectic dream onto paper so that anyone with a palette can digest it.
My fervent desire is to drive people into dreaming about visiting one of the most coveted towns in the South. It is a lovely town with something to offer any taste. I am more excited about visiting this historic town than I can remember.
My writing gigs keep me pretty busy, and I am not complaining. However, I am committing to more often contributing to my baby, my love child, JP. I find the platform a great outlet to connect with other wanderers, epicureans, and home cooks with a passion for traveling or at least reading about far-flung places. And that is my niche in the world.
